Pilothouses were used on sailing vessels a lot longer than Outboard
motors or any motors. They were used on North Sea Sailing vessels, Trade
Route Square Riggers, Down East Schooners and anywhere that needed a dry
place to work charts and courses near the helm

We've discussed this before (with the true Crapton:_ so I'll only
mention it in a passing way) All Alias read up on Maritime History.
