Default Sailing Weather

Wind blowing "Force 5" Hvy Rain. Pretty much the Forecast for the
Week-end.

Temp. Hi 49 Lo pred. 42. It is 5:01 PM and the Temp is already 34. Don't
think it will freeze but will get damn close.

Not fun weather for sailing, even with Pilothouse.

Wind keeps blowing the Pet Door open. Have to keep the plate in place to
keep out the rain. Looks like a couple of days of "Pacific Pineapple
Express"

Thought I might get out but doesn't look good and with Christmas upon us
it looks like awhile. I'll go down and button "Pneuma" up for a winters
nap in the morning.

Enjoy your boat you southern sailors.

By the way Bellingham is; Lat 48 degrees 40 min north and boat stays in
the water year round.

F5 is a good breeze- boat should move well! Bummer about the rain
though... aren't you used to it up there?

Hmmm, that sounds pretty crummy.

Are you sure it's not the ghost of pets of yesteryear?

Do you have to do a full winterization? Or do you get enough sunny days
that it's worth having the boat available to go out some times during
the winter?

Enjoy your boat you southern sailors.

We will, thanks!

Doug,

We do get good sailing weather all winter long. In fact we get better
winds in the winter than we do in summer. The problem is the cold. That
is why the PILOTHOUSE!

I do a sought of a winterizing. Drain the fresh water tanks and install
electric heater in the Cabin and light bulb in the engine compartment.
When I disconnect the shore power I'm ready to sail. Have to drain fresh
water tanks in case of power outage, which is common here.

Force 5 with light rain is OK but hvy rain or fog doesn't make for
pleasant sailing.

Just purchased a new digetal camera and waiting for a A/V jack (Back
ordered) Hoping to get some pictures of winter sailing to the group

Understood.... BTW do you have a window in the roof your pilothouse, to
look up at the sails? Some of our friends have getting these installed
in their biminis.

Don't do that, pour in a bottle of Everclear instead

... and install
electric heater in the Cabin and light bulb in the engine compartment.

That wouldn't work here, as most hard freezes are accompanied by ice
storms that knock out the power.

Agreed, but it's still sailing!

Cool! We also just got a new digital camera, a Panasonic with a 12X
zoom. Should be nice for taking sailing pics. Looking forward to seeing
your pics!

BTW the Webshots site is good & useful IMHO, it's surprising how many
people view my pics there. Usually ~150 a week or so, I wonder how many
are randomly surfing thru.

I thought a pilothouse was to hold in the cool air from the AC's
inside.

And Doug, all fine pilot houses have a hatch on top so the helmsman can
always see his main.

Only in Texas

Mine doesn't
But we do have a closed-circuit TV for watching the engine room.

BTW here is a pic from our boat ride yesterday... some interesting local
scenery!

Seems like a nice boat just to leave where it it.
Did you go ashore and check it out?

No, maybe we will another day. It's right across the creek (actually
about 3/4 mile wide at this point) from a sailing club. I'm curious how
the owner secured it... dragged anchor, most likely?

Sorry old chap but a pilothouse belongs only on a motor vessel.

On a sailboat a pilot house is an abomination.

Ask yourself would you put a barn door on a Lear Jet?

Considering that your yellow monstrosity resembles a barn more than it
does a sailboat:

1- why do you post here at all?

2- when are you going to put a proper barn door on your "boat"?
