Rule 24 para f.....there's also a picture of same. but it helps to have
spent time on the Big Easy.

Memory doesn't count. A requirement is to always have a copy of ColRegs on
hand.

I was doing it from memory while you had to look it
up. Besides, as the answers are written, C is NOT
a valid answer.

There is no such thing as a sidlight nor a speical flashing light.

B is the closets best answer.

INLAND ONLY Which lights are required for a barge,
not part of a compostite unit, being pushed ahead?

A. Sidelights and a sternlight
B. Sidelights, a special flashing light, and a sternlight.
C. Sidlights and a speical flashing light.
D. Sidelights, a towing light, and a sternlight.

Ans. C

no such thing as a speical flashing light . . .

Maybe not in Nealand, but you should check in the rule book. I think
you just confessed to hiring someone to take the test for you.

C is correct.

If you study the answers, each contains sidelights.
What else is required? Sternlights are not needed
since it is being towed ahead.
That gets you down to one possible choice.

C is valid. And there is nothing wrong with looking answers up
in the book, if necessary. One requirement is that a copy of the
Navigation Rules must be carried on board.
This is an actual test question.

Many of the tugs / barges / workboats on the Chessy have so many deck

This problem is getting worse with time.
As someone who does considerable night time work, I'm noticing more and
more that for various types I have to note "type" first and then find
the running lights (especially difficult with newer locations for
sidelights)
One of the worst offenders are cruise ships.
