I don't generally go back to my mooring unless the overall weather picture

the
storm. When these storms kick up, there is invariably wind associated with

them.
If the storm is coming from W-SW, as it usually is, I can easily sail at 5

or 6
knots headed either south or north and the storm will blow on by without

me
getting wet. It's not at all hard to get out of the way. The LIS is about

23
miles across up here.

I've been doing it this way for about 45 years now.

agreed. out by the thimbles the distance you can see is increased
substanially.
your tactics are valid for where you are. for me that means being well east
of execution rock, which places the sail past a "3 hour cruise" with some
non-sailing friends.
west of execution reduces running room north to south.

hope you keep doing it for another 45.

BTW the thimbles are really great.
spent last weekend anchored off of calf island outside of Belle Haven.. also
beautiful
watched the 12 meter boats
when you see these things you start to beleive there is a god.

there was also a double masted vessel..my guess 140' LOA
made my 30 footer look like a ragged dinghy......oh well.
cheers

Well, yes. But you certainly don't stay in Little Neck Bay, do you?

Oh, Sorry, Steve!!! How have you been? As you can see, I'm still torturing
Alt.Sailing.asa.
The next boat is coming soon, but I won't announce here until Scotty Potti
implodes.
It was a pretty good season this year.
