Default Insurance Happy Day

I can't list the name of the insurance co. There are two very nasty people here
who would think nothing of causing trouble if I did.
It was NOT BoatUS, and we were treated extremely well. Total for theft was over
14K, and they will pay out 11.5K . I know from talking with people at my club
that we would have been beat down by BoatUS penny by penny. We ended up with a
very fair settlement that will allow for the Porta-Bote, new outboard and some
new electronics. I can't stress how important it was that I had numbers and
pictures of most of the gear. There was never any questions. It took time,
mostly because of a backlog caused by the hurricanes.
Watch for pics of Alien's new gear, though I'm replacing the radar head instead
of going new on that.

BoatUS probably would have tried to treat you
fairly. When my boat suffered what they called a
close lightening strike, they replaced all
affected electronics. They even allowed for some
degree of upgrading.
Yes, it is a good idea to keep the serial numbers,
but remember that when you try to sell this stuff
on Ebay, it will be tracked. The poor sucker you
sell it to will be caught when they try to get the
factory to service it.

My friend's Cape Dory 22 was dismasted on a mooring during the night. BoatUS
depreciated the cost of the mast effectively paying 200 bucks for the loss! He
had to sue them to get a fair deal, which he finally did. I hear too many
horror stories about BoatUS, many from dealers. When I bought Alien the seller
told me about a "real" yacht insurance co. Not even my outboard or dinghy were
depreciated and I got MSRP on them.

Yeah, since I'm doing the tracking, maybe I'll catch me!
