I forgot about what happened yesterday. Tied up in the slip, cleaning
up the boat, when I hear 3 different sirens go off. Fire trucks
entering the marina, I scan for a boat on fire. Just off our dock is a
sailboat with 5 police/rescue/vessel assist boats around it. Then they
rushed past with a body to the ambulance. Could not resuscitate.

First report was that he was hit by the boom and fell in. Later, the
water cop told me he was hit by the boom, but told his brother he was
ok, Then, later went swimming and drown.
Sad.

One hell of an exciting trip report, Scottie!

Did you take one loop around the bathtub or two?

Now, the big question;--- use the Boom rigged with a Topping Lift or a
Solid Vang?

The local news has been reporting it as a boating accident stating the guy was
hit with the boom.

yeah, Fox and another TV crew were there. Asked me for an interview,
but I told them all I knew was scuttle-but from the docks. They said
that was good enough, but I declined.

Thanks, Steve. That's what I saw too. No sustained 25 not winds for any length
of time as scotty reported. I have a buddy near Scotty with a C&C 24 and he
said averages were in the 15 knot range with a spike of higher wind as the sun
set.

RB

Scott Vernon September 7th 04 03:21 PM

Cool site, thanks. So it was more in the 18~22 kt range, and my ''like
25'' comment wasn't too far off considering I have no wind
instruments.

Imagine..... a sailor exaggerating wind speed a bit .

If you're a Republican, the answer is "I said 18, even though my
opponent is unpatriotic."

If you're a Democrat, the answer is, "It depends on your definition of
vs."
