How many folks have lightning "proofed" their boat?
Did you make your own modifications or buy a package? What systems are better than others? Have you ever been hit? Scout Not I, neither, no. If there were any justice, lightning would strike you for firing this topic up again. What's next...guns? Lady Kate's bigger transatlantic-crossing sister "Loose Moose" (not on the web now but here's another: http://www.ace.net.au/schooner/as39ba.htm#start ) was lost due to lightning. No lightning condutors etc (wood mast). Struck while at anchor and unattended in a storm in the BVI. Blew the mast up, punched a hole through the hull _forward_ of the watertight bulkehead, and melted the anchor cable, whereupon boat was wrecked on blowing ashore. Would it have been lost similarly with lightning protection rovided? Probably, is my guess. Let the flamewar begin. Scout wrote: -- Flying Tadpole ------------------------- Henpecked? Harrassed?
