Bill,

Not trying to bump your wagon but counting sleeping time and shore or
fishing time vs ( for my 18hp Univ fuel consumption---1qt/hr) you'd be
somewhere around 50%.with that 3Gal.

Now, Nutsy sitting in his "Slip" at his Nav Station, writing post the
ASA would be consuming 0%. Throw in a trip to Oyster Bay and back could
motor one way and could use less than you (% wise)

That is why our vessels are called Aux.

Thom,

Dourinal says the figure for engine run time while cruising is
typically 85%. Do you feel 85% is the same or even close to your
(miscalculated) figure of 50%, If so, I would like to start sending
you 50 dollar bank drafts in exchange for $85 bank drafts. Perhaps 24
per day?

A day has 24 hours. 8.5 days is 204 hours. If you want to include all
those hours, that's fine, but even so, try the math again. If you use
1 quart an hour, 3 gallons would be 12 hours run time. 12 is NOT 50%
of 204. It is more like 6%

Meanwhile, my less efficient gas outboard uses closer to .5 gal per
hour, but I do not count time stopped - just travel time. I still
don't come anywhere near 50%, much less 85%. My 3 gallons represents 6
hours of run time. I don't have the log with me, but my travel time
for the period was probably around 50 - 60 hours. That puts me
somewhere down around 10 to 12%. If I counted all 204 hours, as you
do, my percentage of run time drops to 3%.

I used 425 gallons this year, 99% was motor sailing. I top off twice
to 3 times a year somewhere around 1000 gallons a year.

Well, unlike Scotty Potty you at least honest. I wonder how much Spirt burns on
his ferry trips.

Good gravy...we only use 600 gallons wrth to heat our 2400 sq ft
house....per year....with bitter cold weather....Sure takes a lot of diesel
to warm up that steel boat!
