On the boat I'd check the rations & water first, then probably the bilge

It'd take a pretty long list, actually. Roughly equivalent to a survey.

Usually the lifesling is stowed when we get on a charter boat, so we
have to mount it ourselves. But I also pay out and flake down the line,
checking it out too.

I also make sure the head works. That keep people happy and I can
enforce the no peeing over the side at night rule.
