Now that he's admitted he can't figure out distance from CI to Oyster Bay, even
with a GPS, he dare not come up with the answer...or look even more stupid!
Trapped like a brainless rat in a maze of his own making!

Bwahahahaha!

Not to mention the many online map servers that could give him the answer in
seconds. He'd have to spell "oyster" correctly, of course...

Yup, even Maptech has freebie downloads of small chart areas. Even better, the
info was also posted to this group plenty of times. Maybe he's saving up to get
batteries for the GPS?

Bob,
does your power cable work when you connect to a computer? I have to use
the batteries when downloading / uploading to laptop because the same port
is used for both. Seems like a poor design in an otherwise quality Garmin
product.

Scout, I have not connected the unit to my laptop yet. We just ran the cable
through the pedestal guard so we could have the GPS always on if we wanted.
Perhaps you can split the power leads from the port?

It depends which cables you have. I use a Garmin 12 (original)
and 12XL professionally. Both have cables that drive from a 12v
source AND have a serial plug for downloading. They cost somewhat
more than the cables most use which are single-purpose (ie power
to gps OR gps to laptop). A disadvantage is that when connected
solely to the laptop (office) or solely to a cigarette lighter
(vehicle), there;s 2m of serial cable or 2m of 12v cord floating
around .

There was this person who had to repeatedly sail back and forth in front of
a well lit bay with every navigational instrument at his disposal because he
was unsure of where he actually was ........ Ring a Bell??? ;-)
