It's been a great 7 months cruising Mexico, but we're at the end of
the season (hurricane time is here)and we're bummin' big time. We're in San Carlos, near Guymas, Mexico, and this is where we'd planned to leave the boat for a few months while we try "land cruising" for the summer. Problem is, laying up the boat for the summer sounds like a major pain in the aft. The heat here is so extreme that cans can explode if you leave them aboard. Bugs can get in and multiply. All the rubber and plastic will crumble. The lifelines even have to come off so they don't melt! Thinking now about trucking the boat to the northwest where we'll be hanging out mostly this summer. What are the problems with moving boats by land? (Besides the xpense) Mike and Barb Latest updates and pix: www.sailinglinks.com/notes.htm |

We've decided to leave her in the water at Marina Real where we'll have her watched over by a local guy. Took off all the sails yesterday. probably will remove the dodger too. After next season we may take her up to the Northwest, but we'll leave here a little earlier before the tropical disturbances start to form. Mike |

You guys are gonna freeze to death up north now that you've tropicalized
yourselves. You're going to have to develop some thick skin.... -- katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 http://katysails.tripod.com "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." - Robert A. Heinlein |

Mike Hi Mike and Barb, Looks like your having a great cruise. I suggest you get some tropical canvas and shade your boat, will help keep your can goods from exploding. A couple of solar vents will help alot to. Beats the hell out of having your hull crushed by ice! Enjoy! Joe |

Heat isn't that big a problem, especially when the boat should be protected from the sun anyway. Or as much of it as possible. But hurricanes... bad. ...
