Hi, group. I've been lurking here for three days and have drawn the
following conclusions:

1. This is not really a sailing group, rather a bunch of sailors kibitzing
with each other, as in a bar or on the dock over rum drinks.

Yup. Next round is on you.

2. There are a few rather bright people here, and many who are, shall we
say, intellectually challenged. No doubt those of you in the former
category know who you are, and the rest of you probably think you're in the
former group.

Actually, most of the group is rather bright, even the villiage idiot has
perfected his art form. Of course, there are a few whose arrogance gets ahead
of their wisdom.

3. This person, Bobsprit, is probably on welfare and does nothing but sit
at home glued to his computer, as no one would have the time to post as much
as he does and actually work a job. Further his take on things is mostly
inflammatory, branding him as little more than a malcontent at best and a
jerk more likely. I'm betting he claims to sail, but lacks sailing
knowledge beyond what he's been able to glean from this newsgroup. I'm also
betting he claims to be wealthy and in possession of fine things, attractive
women (unless he's gay), and a fine sailboat. I'm also convinced he has
none of these.

Well here's the bizarre thing: he actually appears to have some means (at least
until his kid is born), and an attractive wife who is the owner of record of a
rather nice boat, which they sail frequently though not very far. And yet, he
still feels compelled to act as though he's really making it all up! Go figure!

Okay, flame away, but tell me--am I right on any of these points?

Not bad for a few days.

So, do you sail out of Miami?

I can see the boat from the balcony of my condo overlooking a largish marina
filled with mostly large power boats. I must motor about 20 minutes to
reach open water, but the marina is well-protected from the tropical
depressions that roll through here periodically.

I see from some of the monikers and such that some of you are from NZ and
Aus--some of the finest sailing in the world there. I want to go back soon.

It's just a matter of blood density...... I don't really feel the cold...
then again I've worked outdoors at minus 40 degrees celicus for 12 hours
without complaint.

It does get up to + 30c here in the summer...... average at +20c.

What hurts is a sudden change from minus 30c to plus 30c in 12 hours......
walking off that plane into a blast furnace of heat knowing this is ambient
temp for the next 4 months...... ;-D

Mooron, if I can find the time to get there, it's a deal. One of these
years, fer sure. Meanwhile if you head this way, I have places in both
Sydney and Hobart you can stay at, any time. I'll even open a bottle of
78% ethanol Inner Circle rum. Can't say fairer than that.
