I'm looking for numeric data describing current and forecast wind speed and
direction over the oceans? I'm looking for something that can be parsed with software - like an ascii or documented binary format. I'm particularly interested in forecasts for several points during the day, especially if they're updated frequently. I've been searching, but so far, I seem to be finding graphical image data (no use) or numeric data which is daily at best (often up to monthly). Could anyone suggest some sources? -- Wally www.artbywally.com www.wally.myby.co.uk/music |

I noticed some GNU programs related to weather that might help you. I am
not certain if you can get exactly what you want, but here's the link: http://www.gnu.org/directory/science/ Let me know if you find anything useful. "Wally" wrote in message ... Me but only for the Southern Ocean between Tasmania and Heard Island to the Antarctic continent. Not an area much travelled by yachts. I don't have forecast data except for some NOAA satellite data for the last couple seasons but this is terabytes and you'd need to do some fancy processing; not all NOAA satellites have the wind speed sensors aboard. My shipboard data is in excess of 10 year dataset at 10 sec intervals. I have wind speed, direction, air temp, humidity, a couple measures of solar radiation, water temp and a number of other parameters. It's all in an Oracle database with limited public access, however I can extract anything I want. If of interest, mail me off-list as I'm a bit busy to follow asa ATM. peterdotwileyataaddotgovdotau PDW |

Thanks, but this is probably more data and resolution than I'm looking for. In any case, I'm after current predictions. I've since found out about GRIB format files, and they seem to be the thing I'm after. I'll keep your database in mind, though - never know what the future will bring. -- Wally www.artbywally.com www.wally.myby.co.uk/music |
