Had a funny incident here.

The marina chained up a powerboat for not paying slip rent.

They chained the boat thru the swim platform on the transom.
The tide dropped so much that it tore the platform off the transom.

Guess the guy got a few months free rent for damages rendered.

At my original marina in Tacoma we had cases of people not paying the slip
fees. Some would squeak in just under the wire but some would lose their
boats. In Washington you can't sell at a profit. Only for the amount owed.

One particular ketch a 40' or so that needed minimal cosmetic work went in
this fashion. $3,000 cash money and the guy and his wife on the 28 footer
they had sailed up from the Caribbean were in a new home. Best part was the
sales tax. 8 1/4 percent on $3000! The surveryor listed it's actual value
at 'in excess of $50,000.00 current market price.'

Cost of doing the fix up and cosmetics came to another $2,000 for parts,
paint etc. The boat was fully equipped and only the flares and fire
extinguishers needed updating. The charts alone were worth several
thousand! They sold the small boat for $8500 as I recall, paid those costs
and slip fees for the next year!

About six months later the owner showed up to pay his overdue bill. Marina
manager handed him a suitcase full inventories personal clothes and effects
then told him 'don't worry 'bout it!"

I saw at least three others go that way but not as nice as that particular
deal.
