A squared edge is better than round or even sharp, although I shape mine with an alternating bevel. However, if the helmsman isn't the sharpest, or the crew is hiking lazily, or the jb leach is slightly blown, or some other detail of set & trim isn't just right, then a perfectly formed centerboard trailing edge is not going to make the boat faster by magic.
