Hate to pop your balloon, Capt., but B&D did make some professional-grade
tools a while back. They weren't cheap, and they were top-notch. It's only
been within the past decade that B&D went the cheap consumer tool route.

Yup. The grinder is massive and a bit hard to handle, but it's built great. I
don't know what I'd have to spend to get something like it now. Probably 300 or
more I suppose.

Very true, I had a B&D Pirana, one of the first 12 volt models made. it was
one of the best drills I have ever owned, had it stolen 8 years ago.

I hope you're not accusing bob of thievery.

Well, he certainly has a history of stealing things... maybe he's reformed.

You're not poping my balloon at all Max.... I have an almost identical
grinder in the lathe shop as Bob's... it's a B&D but it's not variable and
it's a brute. My B&D 1/2" drill is over 15 years old.

Now the question is would you use a grinder as a polisher.... or would you
label a grinder as "Professional Grade"???

Bob's just having some fun and so am I!

God forbid some newbie to sailing takes a cue from Bob and tries "buffing" a
hull at 10K RPM with a Grinder!!!......

How about 4K? 6? Do you even know that some operate as low as 3500?

Guess not!

Still way too fast. 1500rpm is about as fast as you want a hull polisher to
run.

. . .unless you and gelcoat have no particular love for each other.
