Yes. I agree with Mark Twain: "If I owned both Hell and Texas, I'd

live
in
Hell and rent out Texas."

Just to give Texas a small break, let's talk about South Louisiana

...snip...

Yeh, but it's a dry heat.

In Texas and Hell, maybe. In New Orleans in the summer the humidity
hovers near 100%. Add that to a temperature near the same and... Well,
one of my friends who's a Seattle native visited there with me one
summer. Their comment was, "My God! It's like living inside a
blister."

Disgusting but accurate.

Oops! My bad.

I've done a good bit of "dry heat" camping and hiking in the
Southwest; it's definitely different. And I currently live in the
Seattle area where the humidity tends to be measurable but it never
really gets hot. Anyway...

On that note, with the holidays over, we're returning to "The Maier
Household Travelling Unschool"; so I'll only be checking the ng
sporadically. Keep a coupla arguments hot for me.

I hope to be experiencing some nice, dry heat as soon as we get far
enough south! Goodbye Seattle! Hello, warm sunny country!

Frank (plus my lovely wife, Ronnie, and our two *perfect* little
unschoolers)

Yep, it's different but it's still too dadgum hot.

When young and tough, I put in a few days working as a roofer in the
South... man those guys really earn their money the hard way.

Me 2. When I kid I was a helper and carried the shingles up on the
roof
and learned how to put down T lock shingles. So hot you could not walk
on the shingles, the tar would melt and you would smear the shingles.
About as much fun as pitching hay. The most fun was always putting
insulation in hot attics.

Thank God for Mexicans and AC!

The afternoon I quit, I set a hammer down for a few minutes, the sun heated it up and it
sunk into tarpaper. At that point I realized that life would be a lot better if I found a
different job. And I also came to a FULL appreciation of the words 'got it made in the
shade.'

About air conditioning, we grew up without it and I often feel that the South would be far
far different if it had not become so universal.
