That's a whirlpool? Bwhahhahahahhahaha this is a whirlpool:
"On 28th January 1827 Admiral Dumont d'Urville, Captain of the Navy corvette "Astrolabe" sailed through 'Passe des Francais" ( French Pass ). Just after 7am that morning, with slack tide, suddenly the rushing boiling tide zapped up and swung the corvette leewards. She had not responded to helm and handling and was completely at the mercy of the tide. The corvette struck a reef twice but was eventually swept into nearby Admiralty Bay. Men on the corvette said she was at one moment lying on her beam ends as if about to be swallowed up by the whirlpools that surrounded her. Admiral Dumont d'Urville was then of the opinion that no-one should attempt to navigate the French Pass except in an emergency. This respect for the waters of French Pass was held over the next 173 years." Cheers MC Thom Stewart wrote: bart NYC Hell's Gate |
