You should have seen it in the fifties. On certain occasions, farmers and
ranchers would load up in pickups and go rabbit hunting. Imagine 20 to thirty pickups: 2 shooters with .22's in the back,a driver and a spotter in the cab. The pickups spread out in a line about 100 yards apart and all move forward together at about 5 miles an hour. Headlights on high beam. As the rabbits run and are picked up by the headlights, they freeze and the shooters would kill them. The spotter used the spot light to freeze those running outside the light. Many a night 300 to 1,000 rabbits were killed. They were left where they fell and the foxes, coyotes and vultures had a feast. "katysails" wrote in message ... I drove out to Jacksboro, TX yesterday and was amazed at the dead animals on the highway. In a hundred miles I counted 2 dead skunks, 3 dead possums, 1 dead dog and 3 dead but unidentifiable. When we drove through OK and the TX panhandle we saw hundreds of dead jackrabbits...coudln't believe there could be so many dead animals on the road... -- katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 http://katysails.tripod.com "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." - Robert A.
