Default Hull form for the sound barrier!

Has anyone noticed that if you took two Coronado 27's, cut off the topsides
and glued the hulls together at the waterline, it would exactly duplicate
the Bell X-1 experimental rocket plane?

That's right! The BELL X-1, designed to go beyond the sound barrier! That's
because the Coronado 27 is designed to go beyond the conventional hull speed
barrier. The keel won't stall at any speed and is efficient in the most
turbulent of regimes! There's no buildup of pressure waves on that hull
form, it will slice through the water with the utmost of efficiency at any
speed - and that's no bilge!

Here's to the Chuck Yaeger of sailing - Simple Simon! Yes, it's true that
the Johnson Space Center is currently designing a new rocket plane based
upon the modifications that Captain Neal has performed on his Coronado 27.
Why if Captain Neal didn't have pressing sailing engagements, he'd fly the
prototype rocket plane himself. Don't believe me? Then go check the pics of
Cappy's fine blue water cruiser when it was on the hard and you'll see for
yourself.

No it isn't! My flight instructor has a test model that I helped him
hang in his living room. He makes Yeager look meager... ;-)

No...he's oemone else entirely...unfortuantely, Neal is a real =

The Bell X-1 was a poor design. It took Bell years to realize that
swept back wings were needed to easily make the transition to
supersonic speed. The scientists of the Third Reich knew this twenty
years earlier.

He speaks the truth Katy, After WW11 we imported all that German
talent. One of the main reasons we put man on the moon first. However
body of the X1/hull and wing designs are two different subject.

What Horvath is saying is that if Captn Neal wants to go supersonic
in his coranado he will have to re-design his sails to a more swept
back delta configration.

The X1 was designed in the UK!

Nav, Your an idiot, or a troll. You can not do a little thing like
search the internet to find the facts.

Larry Bell and his team at Skunk Works designed the X1.

He was not in the UK.

His famous quote is "Show me a man who cannot
bother to do little things, and I'll show you a man who cannot be
trusted to do big things."

Larry was first at all the following.

FIRST twin-engine escort fighter (Airacuda)

FIRST aircraft to mount 37mm cannon and flexible gun turrets
(Airacuda)

FIRST modern multi-place fighter, establishing a new type for the Army
Air Force (Airacuda)

FIRST american fighter airplane designed around its armament (P39
Airacobra)

FIRST use of tricycle landing gear on modern military aircraft (P39)

FIRST satisfactory .50 caliber machine gun shock dampener, which
became
standard for both Army and Navy

FIRST modern all-wood military fighter (XP77)

FIRST helicopter with automatic stabilizing control

FIRST jet-propelled fighter in the US (P-59 Airacomet)

FIRST commercial helicopter

FIRST supersonic airplane (X-1)

[DPM's note: there is some evidence to suggest that a Messerschmitt
ME-163 Komet (the rocket propelled plane) may actually have gone
supersonic
during one test flight, but there was no instrumented proof of it
so the X-1 and Chuck Yeager get the credit.....]

FIRST commercial helicopter with 200 HP engine and skid landing gear

FIRST airplane able to vary degree of wing sweepback during flight
(X5)

FIRST radio-guided bomb (Tarzon)

FIRST helicopter designed specifically for anti-submarine warfare
(HSL-1)

FIRST airplane able to fly at speeds 2.5 times the speed of sound and
at
altitudes of 90,000 feet (X1A)

FIRST turbine powered helicopter (XH-13F)

FIRST jet-propelled VTOL airplane

FIRST automatic carrier landing system

FIRST convertiplane incorporating tilting-rotor system (XV-3)

like NAVs.
