This is a common problem for coastal sounders used in deep water. I suggest
you upgrade to a larger more powerful professional grade unit.

A Simrad EK60 with a 12KHz transducer would do it nicely. Somehow I
think there'd be a small problem fitting one to the average yacht.

My old Canadian Tire Fish Finder had no problems with depths to 800 feet. A
common occurrence in Great Slave Lake. It cost $139.00 Cdn......

people do it. It's unsafe and bad seamanship. I don't care what Mooron knows
about topographical current effects. If he's drunk and sailing, he's a hazard.
