"Marc" wrote in message ... i can confirm that sailing conditions were awsome July 31st. Lower Bay, NYC winds S/E at 20+ kn steady. Stupidly single handing an unreefed Freedom 36. Got beat to hell, but lord it was geat. Sounds like you had some great sailing. Are you saying that you believe that Bob did 9 kts downwind, with 11-12 kts of apparent wind? Regards Donal -- |

I heard that that can be really painful if you try to swallow
it whole like bob usually does. "Scott Vernon" wrote in message ... "Bobsprit" wrote My boat was so crowded with lots of bloody meat. I sailed into Manhasset bay to get a bitof protection so I could safely eat a watermelon. RB |

Re-installed the boom vang just in time as we ran downwind at 9 knots!
****, what was wrong? You did 11kts before in light air. S/V Express 30 "Ringmaster" Trains are a winter sport |

No, Donal, I said what I said. My top speeds that day were 7.5 kn dead down wind, in the lee of Sandy Hook, wing and wing in a calm sea in 18kn apparent. 8.2 kn close reaching in 4 to 6' beam seas, 26 kn apparent. Way over canvassed. Could probably have done the same reefed w/o the rudder drag. Well, Marc...hope for some good wind Sunday and maybe we'll see 9 knots...or at least 7! Miserable and rainy here today with plenty of thunder. We're heading out anyway at 6:00 to get some work done on the plumbing...something's funky with the main pump for the sink/shower. Donal's doing the best he can. He's a Beneteau owner. RB |

We actually had higher wind funneling out of Manhasset bay's entrance. Calmed down after we sailed in a bit. Knotmeter read 8.5 a few times on a reach. The GPS was at 9 once, around 7.5 the rest of the time. Great ride, but too many people on board. By the time we left the bay it had dropped off and we were just a bit under hull speed. Great little daysail! RB |

Honestly, I could get 13 knots through the Alderny Race if the boat was only doing 4 kts. It didn't take much to expose that particular lie! Regards Donal -- |
