But now we're back to the question of how much you sail. Last weekend you took your
longest trip of the season. Coney Island is maybe 25 miles from City I, so you might
have totaled 60, 70 miles. Sound like maybe 12 hours underway. IIRC, you didn't sail
much the week before. But you claimed you sailed 24/7, which is 168 hours. There's a big
difference between what you're doin, and what you're claimin!

Add to this that you only sail a lot maybe 20 weeks a year, and your compass is only
seeing a few hundred hours use a year.

I don't think you have to worry about wearing it out. And besides, I'm sure you could get
a new one for half price!

Your Globemaster series compass is designed for years of outdoor use with
reasonable care. Always protect your compass when not in use to protect it from
UV and accidental damage by use of the cover. Stainless models can be cleaned
with any approved polish. Never use an abrasive cleanser on the compass dome or
plastic parts. Clean with fresh water only and glass cleaner.

Compass? He just has to read the street signs on shore or yell and ask for
directions. Do you seriously believe he goes out of shouting distance to
land?

Oops...sorry! We sailed all around the harbor as well as Saturday night. Many
more miles than just the trip. We even sailed part of the river both ways. We
only saw one other sailboat doing this...a C&C 27!
Last week was a lite week due to poor weather, but on the average we sail 3-4
days per week, plus a night sail or two. We're sailing Tomorrow night and
Thursday, then another 3 day weekend.
The following weekend we'll be taking another short trip...not sure where yet.

More proof that this guy doesn't sail. Shouting distance is less than the
length of the boat on a windy day.
But you don't know that of course!

So what's the peak SPL of an average human voice?

It won't go 30 feet on a windy day?

You sail in 90 mph winds?

More proof that Gilly doesn't sail. It's rather sad.

So was your compass covered during your night sail? Does it have a light?

Yup! Just installed a new light! It's red and softly glows against the
underside of Alien-girl breasts!
Compass uncovered? You bet!

At least you finally found a good use for it.
