George Bush is now claiming that original paperwork filled by the CIA regarding
WMD and materials in Africa were eaten by his Border Collie, Butch. The paperwork had the original signature sign-offs by Bush and other members of his Admin. This is not a JOKE, and was just reported on CNN, 1010-WINS and Fox. RB |

America needs AuH2O: Where have you gone, Barry Goldwater?
The Union Leader, Manchester, NH ^ | 7/16/03 | editorial REPUBLICANS nominated Barry Goldwater as their candidate for President 39 years ago today. It wasn't until 16 years later that Goldwater's ideas found their way into the White House. Now, 14 years after Ronald Reagan left office, Goldwater-style conservatism is struggling to maintain any kind of place under the Republican Party's "big tent." In Washington, President Bush has ratcheted up the spending so fast it's a wonder his right arm hasn't fallen off. According to an analysis earlier this year by the libertarian Cato Institute, non-defense discretionary spending has increased 18 percent in Bush's first two years in office. In Ronald Reagan's first two years in office, it fell by 14 percent. Bush is expanding the federal role in education, health care and welfare. He 's buying off constituencies with a zeal that brings to mind thoughts of LBJ. It's as if Ted Kennedy were Bush's domestic policy adviser. The situation is better in New Hampshire, but it is unclear by how much. Gov. Craig Benson talks like Mel Thomson, and he even vetoed a budget. But that budget wasn't too far off from the one the governor himself offered. The good news is that Benson's approval ratings went up after the veto. At least in New Hampshire, the people want smaller, more efficient government. Whether they will ever get it depends on whether there are any Goldwater Republicans left in the party, and how much influence they can scrape up. Barry Goldwater said during the Nixon administration, "We are conservatives. This great Republican Party is our historic house. This is our home." Only the activism of Goldwater conservatives within the party made this observation a reality a few years later. If that activism doesn't resurge soon, the party could be lost for decades. |
