More people were killed by falling coconuts last year than were killed
by shark attacks.

Heh... I saw the park ranger from USVI at Brewer's Bay on the BVI's get
whacked by a falling coconut. He went down like a sack of potatoes. He lived
but had a major head ache for a while.

Just prior to the incident..... he was explaining to me why he always wore
a helmet in the coconut grove area..... he had just removed it because he
was under the tarp on my campsite. He was walking back to their campsite
when he got hit. It was the third time he had been hit by a falling coconut.
I mean... What are the chances of that????

Two days later a diver got his leg chomped on by a shark..... he was towing
a string of speared fish... it was next to his legs. You should have seen
the blood in the water. I stood by and waited while the rescue boat came to
pick him up..... never saw that shark. It was one of the 6 footers that I
knew and had seen earlier diving in the area.

Life is full of dangers..... enjoy them.

1:1 if you live under a coconut tree.

But if you really want to get into this, consider bee stings. There are only a few fatal
bee & wasp stings a year for those that are not allergic. but if you do suffer, the number
goes way up. And its suspected that a significant number of seeming heart attacks are
actually caused by allergic reactions to insect - perhaps many thousands a year.

How about citing a source for that claim?

Default Shark Attack

One day in San Diego, I saw a guy standing at the surf line. It seemed
strange because he seemed to be standing in a bunch of seaweed.
That's why I noticed him. When I got closer, I realized he was standing
in a pool of his own blood. Apparently, he stepped on a sand shark,
and it bit him on the back of his lower leg... no more golf for him. I got
his gf to hold a compress on it, and I went for the paramedics... no cell
phones in those days. It was a pretty ugly wound.

That's why I don't have any coconut trees in my yard.

Sorry Oz! Guns don't even come close to automobiles as
the biggest killers. Let's ban automobiles.

A major killer here in the USA is "medical misadventure" (MD's
mistakes). Naturally they are less than widely reported.

Stay out of the hospital!
