Best Deck Gun?
I would never deliver my boat by truck. Boats need to be in the water
and besides the cost is quite high especially with a keel stepped mast. My wife and I aboard, without any real thought about budget, spent only about $500 a month while on the Pacific side. The cost jumped to about $1000 a month on the caribbean side and that was using much less fuel since there is much more wind. Either way, it is extremely affordable to deliver by sea. We stopped where we wanted and when we were in town (about 1/2 the time) we ate out for most of our meals.... and that budget included trinkets. My trip from LA to Miami took 7 months, stopping where we liked. it was probably the most fun of the nearly 5 years I was out sailing. When you get to where you are going and start day sailing, even if you are going to a new island ever few days, it is not as fun. You'd think that it would be more fun but it just didn't seem to be. I know of several people that have trucked their boats. One of them had
a 65 foot chris that cost a fortune - about 20k all said and done and even then they had to take the boat apart plus put it in the water in tx because the bridges east of there are to low. Another friend shipped a catalina 30 from s. fl to norfolk. The cost of the truck was only about $1400 but all said and done it was a little of 3k total. As for crossing the atlantic and so on, I really don't care much for Europe. I traveled there a lot when I was younger (not by boat - i was a musical director for several oldie acts). I could live the rest of my life in the Caribbean and never have a second thought about it. i use to want to sail to the s. pacific but those that I know that have said cruising there just wasn't as fun as it was in their minds. They liked it and obviously have the pat on the back for doing it but for just pure pleasure of hanging out they all liked the caribbean better overall. (at least those I know but then again, I met them in the carib and not the pacific so that would more or less be expected:-) I've sailed around the med, s. china sea, indian ocean as well as around the us and I really do like having access to the US and all the great things that can be bought in the grocery stores here. When I got back to key west after 1/2 year in central america I nearly went ape s#^t when I saw 4 flavors of ice-cream in a local convenient store. I've decided I like the cleaner, finer things as much as the rough stuff. i have to small children too so for me I am fine hanging out locally now. I do think I will reconsider when my kids move out someday though. Wally wrote: "Danny Taddei" wrote in message I would never deliver my boat by truck. You miss the point entirely. Whether static or not, the chances of two different people's posting from the same IP, whether static or not, is very very slim if they aren't posting from the same place. and you miss the point that someone that wants to post something and make it look like it came from someone else can use a simple piece of software that even a novice like myself has access to. that is the reason for a secure server, it encrypts information so that you don't have to worry about the cloned IP. The software to clone is even free. -- Danny Taddei e-mail me at (remove no-worms-in-a-) There's a horizon on every side. Best Deck Gun?
Wrong again. I've had similar experience. I own three right now,
two rifles and a handgun. I don't keep any of them on my boat. (Of course, I'm only sailing in the bay, so the chances of running across a dangerous iguana is pretty small.) "Capt. Mooron" wrote in message news Well of course.... but the problem with a mentality about firearms like Ganz has stemmed from media reports and no actual experience. I was taught to handle firearms when I was 5 years old. I've always had them and have never considered them more than a tool. Like a knife they have to be treated with caution and respect. I use a parkerized police model 12ga Mossberg because of the weight, style and load capabilities. It's a pump and I like pump actions. It has the ability to change barrels and can be altered with a barrel kit and insert to fire special loads for firing the line launcher. This launcher kit is excellent aboard a boat and can deliver an 1/8" heaving line to 200 meters. Like I said before in this thread... the 2 worst prospects for guns aboard are the "Rambos" and the "Wimps" . The Rambos think a gun will get them out of any trouble and the wimps think it will get them into all the trouble. As a survival tool a shotgun can't be beat. Cut the shells to have gunpowder to start a fire. The sound of the gun fired in the international distress code of 3 shots can be heard for miles. Food can be secured and self defense capabilities are increased. I don't view self defense against people... because were I have been the animals are way hungrier. If you want to avoid "trouble" when sailing... use your wits.. not a gun. Avoidance is by far the best defense. Never shoot at something you cannot positively identify. Never use a firearm as a bluff or deterrent.... if it's use is required it should be unseen, unexpected and direly required. I can't remember too many occasions where that scenario has occurred. Sir Peter Blake was a prime example of how not to use a firearm. I use #9 copper coated bird shot for in house rounds and since I reload my own shells I reduce the powder load to allow it to just penetrate a piece of plywood to below the veneer at 10 paces. Unfortunately my reloader and shotgun are currently in a secure location at a cabin in the NWT. I'm having it shipped down next week. Damn gun control and registration is screwing things up. "This year will go down in history- for the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!" ADOLPH HITLER, 1935 CM "Peter Wiley" wrote in message om... | "Capt.
