Wow, that's a lot of work. What do you reckon your time is worth? I'm a high school teacher (science and English). Long story how I got mixed up with both areas. Anyway, now I have nothing to do but play all summer. Besides, this was a labor or love. The superheat and subcooling values are calculated. You have to know pressure & temp at two points in the system, and the total weight of the charge. You are correct sir! But in this particular case, the total weight is insignificant. I knew the saturated evap temp and the suction gas temp, hence, I could calculate superheat of the suction gas. And I knew the saturated condensing temp, and the liquid line temp, hence the sub-cooling was simple subtraction. I didn't bother with superheat of the discharge gas (got lazy toward the end). Sounds like you are well above the average shade tree mechanic. Can you fix turbine driven machinery? If so, please consider moving to NC... I want to hire somebody to do my job so I can retire! It's easy to see that you have a mechanical background too. I "retired" into teaching after 23 years in mechanical construction and engineering. Worked with boilers and industrial hvac equipment in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. I cannot, however, take your job! I'm licensed only to MAKE steam in New Jersey and Philadelphia. My turbine experience is not worth mentioning. I did spend two years stationed at a nuclear plant though (Limerick), and did some work at Peach Bottom nuclear as well. All I know is turbines are loud! Can't tell you much more than that. Cheers, Scout |

Always liked "to kill a mockingbird" so I borrowed the name Scout from one
of the characters. I actually sat next to Gregory Peck in the Bristol Theater when he came to see his daughter in a play there; he was always one of my favorites. I sail the bays mostly, sometimes like to overnight in some great, secluded places on the Mullica or Bass rivers. I've taken my boat out in the ocean, but it seems a bit too small (19' Starwind) for coastal sailing. I got tossed around pretty much, especially in the inlet. We always had a cabin cruiser when I was growing up, so it feels like I should be out there in the ocean, but I think I will hold off until I have a bigger boat. And, relative to the experience in this group, I'm a newbie sailor; I'm trying to transition from power to sail, so I am still learning the ropes, literally. I'm really loving it though. This is my third year without a couple of big Chrysler marines under me, and I'm loving the peace and quiet of it all. Scout "Scott Vernon" wrote in message ... Picking the right time is important when running inlets. Shucks, people have circumnavigated in boats that were smaller & less capable than a Starwind 19! I'm not saying that to push you, just that in this (as in almost every) case, the boat can withstand more than the sailor(s) can. You might want to study it as well. It means you UPGRADE in quality. Size is not always a factor. My P30 was better made than the Catalina 27. The C&C is better put together than the Pearson in most respects. On the other hand you chose a vessel that is larger, but lacking in quality and character...as was your mac. Why don't you just buy quality and stick with it.
The C&C is a good boat. You should stick with it until you have perfected sailing with it. Ultimately, it's not the boat, but the person who owns it. "Bobsprit" wrote in message ...
