Glad you see it that way.
Anyone in their right mind would see this as a way to foster dialogue
and engage KJI. I'm sure the prison sentence was N. Korea's way of
pushing to engage without looking weak. They've been trying to create
leverage with their missles and only managed to **** everyone off,
incluing China.
This is a way for them to make nice and get a negotiation started.
Whatever KJI negotiated for their release is a small portion of what
needs to happen in order to calm that situation down. It's just a way
to get to the table.
