If you know somewhere to put it take it away, locate the owner and claim
salvage.
If you can get aboard and find the federal documentation number, it's
very easy to look up the owner in the USCG documentation database.
A boat which is in harbor, safely tied in its slip, removed from that slip
onto the hard, and then "salvaged" by a third or fourth party? I dunno, but
if I were the absentee owner and I had not been properly and legally
notified of losing my slip and some yahoo tried to claim "salvage rights" on
my boat, I would be more than a teensy bit peeved.
It's happening here too. I know of a super sweet 52 fter thats fixing
to go to sherriffs auction.
So many 30 somethings unclaimed they are being crushed and dumpstered,
or used as land fill.
You should have seen the highway dept after Ike here in hwy 146.
Crushing dink after dink and stuffing them into big trucks with the
rest of the debris. Personal things like trophys, personal belongings
ect were left on the side of the road for about a week or so.
We are now getting 30 something boats anchored in the federal
waterway next to this marina, and left, One the other day drug anchor
and blew down on a fellows boat here at the marina..uscg came, boats
gone. The Taylor lake cut is still full of boats. Good time to buy a
boat.

Don't be too quick to jump for a hurricane boat. After Fran came
through the Wilmington NC area, there were field of what appeared to be
perfectly good boats. However on very close inspection there was some
critical defect in all of them and they were being totaled. Deep
internal broken ribs, keels, etc.
