Dell Quality Control Issues Not Going Away

Other than the ease of ordering on the internet I don't understand why
anyone would buy a Dell.
It is a Windoze box (with all of those problems) coupled to
proprietary hardware and mediocre customer service.
The last time I got involved in one of these the Microsoft tech said
he could fix the XP registration problem with a few keystrokes if I
would send him $75 but the customer's primary support was Dell. The
Dell support's answer was to format the hard drive and reload the
system.
My neighbor has a LAN problem as we speak, Dell says reload the hard
drive.

Over the last 20 yrs, I had ordered many computers from Dell, and was
generally pleased with being able to "customize" my computer with the
features I wanted. Dell's severe quality problems have been discussed
both in the general media and industry media. In the last 5 years, Dell
has purchased inexpensive components that would not allow the PC to
operate any where close to the CPU's potential. If you compare a Dell
with similar PC made by another mfg'ers PC, Dell's are slow as molasses.
Dell's customer service has consistently been rated at the bottom of
the barrel. Hell would freeze over before I would buy a Dell.

My son, starting his Phd program and my youngest daughter just starting
college this year have both bought Mac's. Plus they both got a free
ITouch, which hopefully they will both use for their PDA. Comparing
similar features the Mac was competitive with a PC. Unless something
drastic changes, my next computer will be Mac
