I like the new boats except the outboards. Had the waves been a bit
steeper the 3 outboards could be easily swamped in such a rescue
attempt.

The 'standard' technique over here is/was.. to drop the hook if it is
at all tricky and back in. That way, working the engine against the
anchor, you have good control even in a breaking sea and can get off
even if the engine/prop get damaged. They were not bothered by
conditions so could take a few liberties.

Over here they go in and rescue and do not take the time to set
anchors. We use to have a fleet of 44's that could do the job without
such rigging before rescue.

I'm a fan of the 44's for sure, Saw one converted to a liveaboard not
long ago..
He also goes out for towboat when they are scared and underpowered.

But they are fast and have weapon mounts...

In Wales, Boyo, the CG and RNLI don't carry weapons. There is some
doubt about the RN too..

That was mostly true here in the USA before 9-11 as well. Now they
all sport machine guns and side arms.

Which is good, unless they are checking to see if you have lifejackets
and you call them a bunch of brown water puddle sailors ;0).
