Can someoe tell me how com[plete the cell coverage on the NJ coast,
between Cape May and Sandy Hook is? How far out to sea does it
extend?

We will be in the area this weekend and it would be nice to phone my
better half occasionally to keep her up to date.

Coverage is very good in my experience, extending out 10 to 15 miles
in most places, sometimes more.

Many thanks for your response and apologies to the group for the
double post.

i was a radio operator with the coast guard at station sandy hook
between 2001-2005. cell phones are fine for calling home but do NOT
rely on them for emergency contacts. they are NOT reliable enough for
this...very few cell phones are stable enough to handle the timeframe
necessary for a search and rescue. either the batteries go dead, they
get dropped, or the coverage is variable.

make sure you have a VHF radio. that's what you'll need for emergency
coverage.
