This looks like real sailing
http://www.actadvantage.org/Newslett...r06/HomerCatbo...
However "breezing up" just does not look right
http://www.birdsnest.com/images/breezing_up.jpg
See what I mean? And breezing up is worth 5X's Catboat.
Joe
Looks like the former is a crude watercolor of the latter. But
neither
are cat boats as neither are gaff-rigged. Looks like Breezing Up
has
a
sprit sail and it looks like Homercatboat deleted it and tried to
make
it look like a big jib. . . I think you might have gotten either
the
pictures or your descriptions backwards as it looks to me like
Breezing
Up is more realistically portrayed.

Crude? Haa! Simple maybe, but not crude.
Is this crude?

Same anchorage that " Cut the Cheese" is moored.
And no, I did not get the pictures backwards. The motion of the
boat
and rudder looks real in the Catboat pic, but no so in the
"Breezing
Up" picture.
Joe
Look at the pictures again, Joe. Breezing up has weather helm and the
rudder is trying to correct for it. The first picture that looks like
a
watercolor has the rudder centered with no wash coming from it.

Agreeded, but the balance of the sail & rudder in both pictures looks
as if the Cat boat is balanced, and Breezing up has too much weather
helm, or the boat is zig zagging. And with that amount of weather helm
the helmsman looks awlful relaxed to me.
Joe
Catboats are notorious for their weather helm. That's why they have that
big barn door rudder to try to counteract it. It looks like it's not
close hauled, probably close reaching and in the puff's a close reaching
catboat tends to head up quite vigorously. The fellow at the tiller
would indeed have more of a handful than it looks like he has . . .
