Default older yamaha 9.9 4 stroke?

If a thunderbird 26 is a power boat, this engine may be suitable for this kind
of planing hull. If you have a sailboat, you want the long shaft high thrust
model which
will give you the higher gearing for a displacement type hull. I have the 9.9 4
stroke
high thrust on my 22 foot sailboat, and it works ok when it is running. I have
had
carb troubles with the jets continually blocking up. I am installing a 10
micron inline
filter next season which will hopefully cure that problem. Otherwise it's fine.

any opinions on the older yamaha 9.9 4 stroke outboards, late 80's early
90's that had the white casings? This is the non high thrust version.

Ive been holding out for a newer version of this motor, preferably second
hand, but one has come up for sale that looks to be in good condition and
well looked after, it also comes with forward controls and a tank for
AU$500. brand new this motor retails for around AU$3300, which is why i was
hoping to find a second hand one for around 1000~1500 but Ive been holding
out quite a while now and i really need an outboard for my boat!

This outboard will be used as the main engine on a thunderbird 26. i will
have a one year old honda 2hp 4 stroke as a backup, but i really would like
to have a reliable outboard there when i need it that will start easily and
give me good service.

Does this outboard have a generally good reputation? if i buy it and spend
a few hundred on servicing does it seem like a good buy?

Thanks,
Shaun
