Hey, I just got a bottle of 10 year old Laphroaig as a gift. Is it any
good?
Absolutely. I like Laphroaig, but Lagavulin is somewhat better IMO,
especially the older stuff. Islay (pronounced EYE-luh) scotches tend to
be peaty and smokey. They are the single-malts that gave scotch the
"medicine" moniker than persisted for decades. You either like them or
you don't. If you don't, try highland malts for a less dry scotch.
I haven't opened it yet... waiting for the right occasion. :-)
The right occasion for scotch is anytime you're desirous of something to
enhance your life experience, if only a little. Single-malts are like icing
on the life cake.
That bottle should last a couple of weeks, Jon. Islay malts aren't much
good for guzzling with buddies over a 49ers game, albeit I can understand
how you might wish to do so. g
