I am trying to remove the drain and fill plugs (slotted head) off my
1991 Johnson 45 HP Commercial outboard but they are seized and I have
more or less stripped the head. Can I heat the screw or will this ruin
the seal? Anyone have any ideas of how to get these screws out?
Thanks

You can heat and buy a new seal. Get a hammer impact hammer.
http://www.kk.org/cooltools/archives/000723.phpThe biggest problem with these plugs is people don't have the right

screwdriver. If it doesn't have a good fit across the whole plug it
will cam out. I started with the biggest screwdriver I could find and
then ground it for a perfect fit in a new plug. The sweet spot was a
ways up the taper of the blade where it got wide enough for the screw.
