I am building a much smaller (20') Billy Atkin design - I do the cutting and
fitting, hiring a welder to do the seams. On this scale, there seem to be
few issues with the detailing.
Only two books I have seen on Alum boatbuilding:
Pollard, you ordered Boatbuilding with Aluminum ISBN: 0070504261
Sims Aluminum Boatbuilding ISBN: 1574091131
Also Gerr: The Elements of Boat Strength ISBN: 0070231591
Check out the Metal Boat Society forum

intelligent discussion of issues.

I'm about to start the construction of a Robert 434 in aluminum next
summer. I have experience in aluminum welding but boatbuilding is a
different subject that just doing butt join. I'm wondering if someone on
the group has some experience in doing the final welding of an aluminum
boat and if there is a book where i could find such knowledge.
I currently have a lot of books on steel boat construction (Colvin,
Klingel and others) and i have ordered Boatbuilding with Aluminum from
Stephen F. Pollard. Any other would be helpful.
Altough i know how to do X-ray quality weld from 1/8 to 1/2 in 5034 alu,
what stresses me the most is the specific welding techniques to remove
stress point in the hull and so on.
Thanks !
