They're prime carriers of the plague. You might want to be careful when
handling them after they're dead.

Squirrels, flea ridden rats with bushy tails, shoot'em I say. You can
have a whole afternoon of fun with a dollars worth of pellets, a decent
air rifle and a half dozen of your favourite cold ones.
