I'm not sure I would discount Penn as being able to play that role. He
has developed an ability to portray different characters. I admire
that in an actor. Johnny Dep does that as well. They become someone
completely different. Many of the hollywood actors are simply
themselves in what ever they do. I used lump Jack Nicholson in the
later group until he did About Schmidt. Same with Nicholas Cage until
he did Adaptation. It was impressive what a loser Cage was able to
portray in that movie.
