Heart of Gold and the Genset
No genset is suited for your boat (sorry) but that's just one of the
reasons it's a day sailor and not a cruising vessel.
Nonsense. It fits easily. I'd like to see if there's anything smaller
and lighter before accepting the weight of two adults in gear that will
be used on rare occasions.
Your main
problem is space not weight so much, you can not go air cooled so you
have to use a marine unit. Do you know of any other 35s5 with a genset?
What do they use?
Space is certainly not the problem. The 35s5 starboard storage under
the cockpit is most of the same space used on three cabin models. It's
huge to the point of being almost rediculous. Right now we have three
sail bags in there, the dinghy (not inflated!), 5 fenders. two tool
kits and a lot of odds and ends that need to be cleaned out. There's
still room for two people to sit and have tea. I have seen other 35s5's
with gensets, but never asked what they were using. I'll look into it.
I would get hatch top AC's and only use them at the dock. Toss them
in
the dock box while sailing.
Our 35s5 already had a nice AC system with heat. Why buy cumbersome
portables?
Your boat is a day sailor bob,
Yup, we bought her for day sailing and short trips. Right boat for the
right usage.
the AC's
and comforts of home are still quite a few steps away on your stepping
stone path of boat ownership.
That's actually a valid point and I think I'd have to be a pretty old
man to want a boat like Redcloud. Not knocking your boat....just not
right for the fast and fun sailing we're doing now with a 23 month old
toddler aboard.
During the hot weather sail at night. You might learn to enjoy it.
Perhaps some hatch wind scoups would help..It's not that hot in NYC.
Last week the heat index was over 100 almost every day. We did find a
nice night in there, but we were one of the only boats out until the
sun dropped.
We're sailing today...looks great out there!
