Canted Kayak Racks?

They have advantages and disadvantages. They work fairly well and solve your problem.
They put the kayak a bit higher into the wind and can be a bit awkward to load at first
(the kayak doesn't "settle" quite so well compared to saddles especially if the bars
are close together). You get used to it, I understand. I know folks who've made their
own versions out of wood.
I'd be quicker to recommend this than a rack extension. The only other alternative
would be a stacker - one that holds the kayak on it's side. I've used those with a
ski box on the rack.
