I called Simrad and they informed me that their product will not work
with the Newport 27. It has to do with how the cockpit is
configured...the seats don't align good enough with the tiller. I was
able to return the product but had to pay a 15% restocking fee, so I am
trying to avoid that next time. I've been looking at the RayMarine
models online but just wanted to see if anyone had any luck installing
those on a N27.

AutoHelm has a variety of brackets to permit their pilots to mount on
almost any configuration of tiller/cockpit seating. There are brackets
that will mount the tiller pin above or below the tiller, at various
heights, and other parts to mount the outboard end of the pilot at
various heights above the seats, or away from the cockpit coaming.
Even if AutoHelm or Simrad don't supply a suitable assortment of
brackets, it should be possible to fabricate something yourself (or,
if you are not mechanically inclined, to have something fabricated.)
