Default Performance coach and performance enhancing drugs...

We have just heard that Krassimir Ivanov has been appointed by our
Performance department...

Ivanov recently left his job with the Belgian Canoe Federation ostensibly
to spend more time with his family (so, why is he coming here???), but it
seems that his calls for the 'liberalisation' of performance-enhancing
drugs might have featured to tip the balance in the decision to let him go.

With a backdrop like this, what are the BCU doing even thinking about
interviewing such a person? With the Olympics in London just around the
corner and the claim that we need to inspire the youth of the world, how can
this man be trusted with our paddlers and our sport?

Just something more to add...

At a meeting yesterday, Anne Ferguson (Sports Council appointed 'manager'
who, it seems is chasing the Performance Manager post currently occupied by
Alan Williams), stated that she knew about the drugs thing but "didn't think
it would come out so soon..."

The young paddlers have expressed their concern about being tainted with
suspicion if they get coached by Ivanov and have been threatened by Ferguson
with the removal of their funding if they don't do as directed.

That's the sort of person now running our sport. Nice to know that bullying
is alive and well in canoeing.
