Without seeing it, I'll take a shot at the tilt/trim part - I'm sure I'll
get corrected if I've missed something.

When trimming the boat while your running , you normally want a slow speed
type correction to the angle of the drive in the water - small adjustments.
Thats the trim part. You'll normally have up/down trim button(s) either on
the dash or on the throttle itself for this.

For the tilt part, when launching/retrieving (trailering) the boat, you want
to get the drive up/down a bit faster for convienience. That is usually an
additional switch (sometimes even marked 'trailer', that when depressed,
gives you that additional speed when depressed.

The way this is set up will vary between boats. Normally you would not use
the trailering switch for trimming, it just moves too fast - although I once
had a Wellcraft that the trim switches failed on and was able to tap the
trailer switch to help me out. One of my current boats even has a 'soft
stop' on the trim going up - i have it adjusted where it stops at my max up
position (before the boat begins purpoising at speed) and I have to use the
trailer switch to move it any higher. But on my outboard, the tilt and trim
are the same - it moves slowly up until a certain height (angle), then it
switches in to 'tilt' mode and raises much faster on it's own.

Like I said, the implementation itself varies from boat to boat but the
basic idea is - trim for running, tilt for launching/loading.

Hello all....just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with OMC
engines. I just purchased a 17' Arrow Glass with a 4.3 Litre OMC I/O
engine. The problem I'm having is with the power steering. It doesnt
appear that the power steering is working at all. I've greased
everything that is greasable and checked the power steering fluid
levels. Is there any way to tell whether the pump is bad? On another
subject, (this is really stupid), is the tilt/trim the same thing? I
have a button on the control handle and another one about 3 inches
away. Are these two things the same and why have them so close
together. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS - Why do so many idiots post political crap in a boating forum? Any
way to filter them?
