An alternative: Put a vacuum gauge (rated for fluids, of course) between
the filter and raw water pump. Heck, you could put a pressure gauge
after the pump. Either or both would give you visual indicators, once
you figured out what normal values were.
Seems simpler to me.
BTW, I believe there may be an unused fitting in the water jacket for a
temperature gauge, since I seem to recall that one of the alternate
Yanmar panels had temp and oil pressure gauges in addition to the idiot
lights and alarm.
