Default Launched!

"Strider" finally got into the water today and it couldn't have worked
out much better. As I was driving across the bridge to the shipyard
at 0555, I looked over and saw the 105 foot Brigantine "Corwith
Cramer" that I designed in 1984 tied up at the State Pier.

We got the boat in the water about 1000 and ran down to look at the
"Cramer" for an engine trial. The previous owners enlarged the rudder
adding area ahead of the balance and she handles much better than I
expected after talking to other owners. The engine sounds smooth and
strong and reaches 2800 with the quarter wave right at the ideal
point. At full throttle, I can look down and see water about two
inches below the cockpit sole in the suppers. Since the floor is over
a foot above the waterline at rest, she's moving right along.

I couldn't locate any crew so I set out to single hand her across to
the marina with some trepidation since I haven't docked a large boat
in fifteen years. Just as I reached the middle of the harbor, I saw
that the "Cramer" was departing so I ran down and followed her closely
for several miles. It's the best chance I've ever had to really look
at her.

I then returned to the marina and made a very respectable landing even
without allowance for rust and no crew.

The rig should be in next week and the rest of my life will begin.
