My son and I looked at an old Laser sailboat. The price was ok but the
deck was soft. When I pressed down I heard cracking and in one place
it looked as if it was delaminating from the ply below. Does the Laser
have a ply reinforced deck? Has abybody ever done a repair on such.
My guess is that almost all of the ply below the deck nedds
repalcement. Getting the deck off looks to be impossible. I looks as
if the area around the mast step may have been repaired in the past. I
could probably get this boat for maybe $600 with trailer and the old
sail (worn out but serviceable). Any thoughts on this?

Many older lasers (including mine!) have an inspection port installed
around the mast step or other places to gain access 'below decks' (about 6
inch dia - sold in all boating catalogs). Usually used for mast step repair
and or adding foam floatation.
