Sorry, my liberal friend,

The founding fathers created a union of *states*.

They believed strongly in *states rights* and more strongly in *individual rights*
or inalienable rights as they were called in the Constitution. A war was even
fought over states rights but the federal government had become strong enough
to force its views on half a country by then and it was downhill from there.

It at that time that the federal govt. became stronger than the state governments.

I suggest you refresh your lagging understanding of our founding
fathers by reading the following:

In it you will read things like this:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal;
that they are endowed by their Creator with inherent and inalienable
rights; that among these, are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness;
that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men,
deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that
whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends,
it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new
government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing
its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect
their safety and happiness." --Declaration of Independence as
originally written by Thomas Jefferson, 1776. ME 1:29, Papers 1:315

Today's federal government has clearly become destructive to these
ends and our inalienable rights are clearly being denied. Our govt. is
ordained by our Constitution to secure and protect our rights. They
are clearly doing just the opposite in many areas of our lives. Our government
is forceable taking away close to half of the fruits of our labor and using them
for itself and is giving away a large portion of them to every Tom, Dick
and Harry who sticks out his hand. This is NOT what the founding fathers
wanted.

fathers were all about. Our founding fathers believed in strength through

And, our founding fathers United the colonies, they made a UNION. Care to guess why?
