She started her trip around the world at Ushant. When she got back to
Ushant, she had sailed around the world.


No. When she got back to Ushant she crossed the somewhat arbitrary line
designated as the start/finish line. She "sailed around the world" when
her path crossed her antipodal path. Curiously, if that happened at
all, it would have been fairly close to Ushant.



What on Earth makes you suggest that the finish line was imaginary?


Maybe because most of the news reports described it that way. Frankly,
I never much liked the term, but it seems that people have to me
reminded that there isn't a line actually painted on the ocean.
