You would be making a mistake overlooking the
FICHTS of that vintage. Any dealer can update
those engines and once they are set up properly,
they are bullet proof.

I have a 2000 FICHT and love it. It's efficient
as hell, has plenty of power and is problem free.

Johnson Ocean Pro are carbed motors, but Johnson
did make include FICHT technology in some engine
of that era.

Don't take Karen for an expert on this subject - she
is heavily biased, anti-everything FICHT with little
or no basis in fact.

Oddly, she is pretty knowledgeable and a fairly good
read on other things.

Hi Tom, thanks for the reply but to be a little fair you should also
have pointed out that "you" had Ficht troubles, which you now claim are
"fixed".

However I've regularly noticed you saying in this NG how your boat
doesn't perform as you would expect, nor even carry the prop pitch you
know other similar HP motors carry to full revs.

I've refrained from comment because I know you're touchy about it, but
suggest the real reason is; your "upgraded" Fichts were in fact
electronically detuned, which was a standard but never "announced"
tactic to try & get Fichts to just keep running.

By "reprogramming" they effectively ensure you can't really load the
engine while still in that critical lean burn mode, say up to 2000 rpm.

Once past that critical EPA mandated lean burn mode, then the spark
resumes normal properly timed single firing & the mixture is returned to
a "normal" setting (much too quickly but hey:-)), so then the Ficht only
has to contend with low injection pressure & resultant poor atomisation
along with the absurdly risky 1 into 6 oiling system.

I'm honestly glad you've been lucky since they "fixed yours (so far:-))
& wish you nothing but continued luck with your new renamed fichts,
E-Tecs. It's just that given the asking price & the risk of "winning"
it's a consumer testing lottery I'll always advise against.

I've read a lot in this newsgroup about engines with FICHT technology.
Seems likeI've only seen the label on Evinrudes.
I won't go any where near a 98-99-2000 Evinrude.
Was FICHT also used in Johnsons?
I'm looking at a Proline 251 on Ebay. The engine is a '99 Johnson 200
Ocean
Pro.
The engine is a dark gray/blue color.

Mercury continued with its EFI and carburated models as it marketed the
Opimax.
Did OMC?
